West Bergholt Cricket Club News story

Evening league fight on despite sixes heartache.

24 Jul 2013

A hard fought win in the final league game, sees the evening league side finish a healthy 2nd behind Mersea. Even with the despair and bitter disappointment the side felt at their showing on the premier event of any bergholtian calendar a 3 match unbeaten run saw the finish above DNA and W&G, both of whom we vying for home field advantage in the chairmans trophy draw. A 3 run victory over the latter W&G guarantees Bergholt a home fixture in the semi final against likely visitors Chapel and Walkes colne, thanks largely to a solid performance from Dom(61 with the bat followed up with figures of 2-9-3) and Matty Rogers who made the brave call to save his catching hands in the covers for when his skipper came on to bowl, shocking everyone bowling 2 overs in a relatively tidy fashion.

On a more serious note its been a pleasure captaining the evening league side this year, and hope everyone can support us in the game next Wednesday and hopefully the final the week after to defend our title.
