22/6/12 Sudbury Ladies vs West Bergholt Ladies

25 Jun 2012

Sudbury 90 for 9, West Bergholt 96 for 3. West Bergholt win by 6 runs.

West Bergholt won the toss and chose to bat.  Despite an early loss of wicket, West Bergholt then settled well with opening bats woman Jamie Newstead achieving 26 and retiring. A few quick wickets made Bergholt slightly nervous, but then a steadying performance by Kirsty Barber (25 retired) and Jacqui Crombie (22 not out) meant a good score of 96 was achieved in the 20 overs.

With Bergholt only having 8 players they knew the fielding would be tough, but some economical bowling by Newstead (1 wicket for 8 runs off 4 overs) and Helen Scott (3 Wickets for 8 runs off 4 overs) meant Sudbury were having to push for everything. Some excellent fielding performances, especially J. Crombie, led to 4 run outs which put sudbury in an increasingly difficult position. The run rate stalled and they only achieved 90 from their 20 overs.

West Bergholt were extremely pleased with the result, especially as they were playing a well established team with only 8 players.
